We also had another night of excitement at our house- the neighbor gave Katie her old bike and Katie took her first spin without training wheels. She did well going straight, but wanted to keep turning which then threw her balance off. In the second picture she is actually riding on her own.
The joy of having a new friend across the street has turned into the challenge of having three kids play together- someone is always left out. They do fine riding bikes in the cul de sac, but once they decide to play at one of the houses, it quickly goes down hill and one of the girls ends of crying and going home. The honeymoon's over . . . Both of the other girls will start school this week, so hopefully things will settle down.
I thought I would share this cute picture of Caroline at the table that I refer to as Goldilocks. She is quick to capitalize on distractions and when no one was looking she climbed into Katie booster seat and drank Katie's milk.
That same night Katie provided some after-dinner entertainment singing on her karaoke machine. (And you may notice from her appearance that she had a very busy and active day at school). Katie loves to sing made-up songs which lately have contained elements of "I Will Survive" (which we sing and dance to in the kitchen) and typically include lots of "Bay-buhs" (Baby, but said with Katie's rock-star voice).
Saturday we had our usual gym/grocery/housework morning. Most of us had a nap after lunch and then we took the girls out to dinner and shopping. Before we ate, I had Katie accompany me to Sephora and she could hardly contain herself with all of the fun colors and make-up to look at. We went to Mongolian Barbecue for dinner (a make your own stir fry place) and the girls enjoyed it a lot. It was a little more relaxed than last time we were there when it was prom night and I was nervous that one of the girls was going to bump into someone (there's a lot of bowl carrying involved). After dinner the girls played in the fountain and listened to a band while I got to do some shopping. Then we headed to Dairy Queen.
Sunday we made our annual pilgrimmage to the sunflower patch. Jamie and I always laugh at the fact that there are always cars parked there and multiple groups of people taking pictures . . . and we're those people too! It was hot and sunny so the girls didn't last long. Katie had trouble looking at me because the sun was in her eyes. We did get a decent family photo as a lady noticed we were all color coordinating (even though Jamie and I did not plan on intentionally matching) and Caroline liked running down the rows of flowers.
After that, we hit the farmer's market and then the park. We didn't last too long, and headed home to fill up our backyard pool.
Before we sign off I want to share the news of our new cousin! Jamie's brother David and his wife Jenn welcomed a little boy on Monday, named Dillon John Elmer. Unfortunately, he wasn't expected until September and David had just left for Switzerland where he is playing hockey this season, but he made it back by Tuesday night and was able to take Bates with him to meet his new baby brother.
