Another Wedding Weekend

Caroline has continued her avoidance of naps at school this week, which meant that she was a grump on several occassions. She usually demonstrates her unhappiness/fatigue by saying no to everything. Here she is trying to back herself under the counter because she is mad. Then just a day later, she's little miss funny trying to make us laugh with her cup trick.


Jamie and I had a wedding in North Carolina over the weekend, so Jamie's mom (Jamma) was nice enough to fly down from Canada to stay with the kids. Her brother Johnny (JJ) and his wife Suzie (SuSu) came down from Michigan to visit for a day and help out too. From the pictures it looks like they all had a blast!

They went to the Y and in addition to posing with the lifesaving dummy, they played in the mat room. Katie built "the best house ever" until Jamma and JJ knocked it down! Jamma told me that Katie wanted to be upset but then saw how hard Jamma and JJ were laughing and decided to laugh, too.



After the Y they enjoyed a dinner out and the girls were thrilled to go to Max & Erma's and eat the make-your-own sundae bar!



Saturday JJ and Susu left and Jamma took the kids to a local grocery store for a Halloween event. You can see that they wore their costumes again and enjoyed "driving" around the store.



Sunday they went to Sunday School/playroom/church and then attended a pancake breakfast there. Later in the day they had some more fun at the park. Jamma packed in a lot of fun over the weekend!



Meanwhile . . . while the kids were busy, busy, Jamie and I enjoyed a kid-free flight down to Charlotte and then made our way to Lake Lure. We left our GPS for Jamma, and discovered that our low-tech Yahoo Maps directions didn't quite cut it. We missed a road coming out of the aiport and ended up enjoying the City of Charlotte much longer than we had planned. This was one of those times that reconfirmed the fact that we should never go on the Amazing Race together!

We finally made it to Lake Lure a little after 10 p.m. and quickly changed and joined the welcome party. It was a great time catching up with friends and a good warm up for Saturday.

Saturday morning we enjoyed a boat tour on Lake Lure and then got ready for Tom and Meredith's wedding. It was a beautiful day and a terrific wedding.


As you can see there were a lot of our friends there- this photo includes everyone who graduated from my high school and some spouses. You can kind of see me in the back right.


They had a photo booth set up and Kim, Anna, Abby and I were happy to try it out a few times. When Katie saw the pictures later, she kept asking why we were sharing germs by drinking out of the same glass.

We arrived home late Sunday afternoon and after catching up with Janet and the girls, got to work on carving our pumpkins. Caroline liked helping, but wanted to wash her hands after each scoop of goo. After a while she lost her focus and started wandering around (leaving little orange fingerprints all over). It was a good thing we had Janet to help supervise since the activity required a lot of crowd control due to the messiness, sharp knives and Sharpie markers.

Once Katie saw Jamie's pumpkin she was inspired to put on her new hockey gear that Jamma brought for her- a helmet, cage and gloves.


Caroline drew a face on her own pumpkin, too. Although it would have required some very intricate carving. Jamie reinterpreted her design slightly.

Thank you for coming, Jamma. The girls had a great time (and so did we)!
